Yes. Hypnotherapy can help build confidence by calming the nerves that come with pressure and changing the automatic self-doubt that tells you that you are not ready, not capable or not the right person for the job.
Low confidence is rarely about a lack of ability. It usually runs on old, unconscious beliefs and a body that braces itself whenever you are tested. Hypnotherapy works directly with that layer, which is why it can help when reminding yourself of everything you have already achieved has not been enough to change how you feel.
I am Michele Occelli, a London hypnotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience. Many of my clients are capable, accomplished people who still feel like they are about to be found out. My aim is to help you trust yourself and your abilities, so you can speak up, take opportunities and meet change feeling grounded rather than exposed.
Low confidence is not a lack of ability. You might recognise some of these patterns:
Low confidence is very common, even among highly capable people, and it can change. You do not need to wait for a big deadline or a new role to get support.
Book a first session →In hypnosis, your attention becomes focused and absorbed, and the critical, analytical part of the mind steps back. In this state, the nervous system settles and the mind becomes more open to new responses. In our sessions, that allows us to work on four levels:
Low confidence often rests on beliefs formed long ago, such as “I am not good enough” or “I always get it wrong”. In hypnosis we find where they come from and help your mind replace them with a more accurate sense of what you can do.
Imposter feelings and a harsh inner critic can drown out the evidence of your own abilities. In hypnosis we soften that commentary, so you can recognise your strengths and act on them.
We rehearse the situations that test you, from presentations and interviews to difficult conversations or a new role, so you can approach them feeling calm, prepared and more like yourself.
You leave with practical self-hypnosis and anchoring techniques you can use before and during challenging moments, so progress does not depend on the therapy room.
In person in London or online. Each session lasts 60 minutes.
About where confidence lets you down, when self-doubt began, what you have been holding back from and how you would like to feel instead.
I guide you into a relaxed, focused state. You stay aware and in control, can hear everything and can stop at any time.
Many clients notice a shift in how they feel after the first sessions. Preparing for a specific event can take just a few sessions, while long-standing self-doubt usually benefits from a series, often between 4 and 8, reviewed together as we go.
Research into hypnosis for anxiety is encouraging. A 2019 meta-analysis published in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, which pooled results from 15 controlled studies, found that hypnosis produced a substantial reduction in anxiety compared with control conditions, with larger effects when hypnosis was combined with other psychological approaches. Research looking specifically at confidence is limited, and confidence is harder to measure than anxiety. But the nerves and self-doubt that undermine it respond to the same methods, and mental rehearsal is widely used to prepare for high-pressure moments such as presentations, interviews and performances.

Confidence is not a fixed trait that you either have or lack. It can be learned and strengthened, and the goal is not to feel fearless or certain all the time. The goal is to stop self-doubt from deciding which opportunities you take and how you show up. Many clients find that hypnotherapy helps them feel steadier and more self-assured, and gives them tools for the moments that still feel challenging. Results vary from person to person, and I will always be honest with you about what is realistic.
It depends on what you would like to change and how long you have felt this way. Preparing for one specific event, such as a presentation or an interview, may take only a few sessions. Long-standing self-doubt that affects several areas of your life usually benefits from a series of sessions over several weeks. We will review your progress together as we go.
A 60-minute session costs £150, whether in person in London or online. If you would like to commit to a series of sessions, bundles bring the price down to £140 per session (3 sessions) or £130 per session (6 sessions). A limited number of reduced-rate sessions are available each month through my low-income clinic.
They are closely linked, but not the same. Confidence is trust in your abilities: the sense that you can handle a task, a conversation or a challenge. Self-esteem is your underlying sense of worth as a person, regardless of what you do. You can be confident at work and still feel you are not good enough deep down, or feel fine about yourself and still freeze before a presentation. We will look at which one matters most for you, and often we work on both.
Yes. Public speaking, interviews and important meetings are some of the most common reasons clients come to see me about confidence. In hypnosis we rehearse the situation in detail while your body stays calm, so the real event feels more familiar. If you have a date coming up, let me know when you book, and we can plan the sessions around it.
Often, yes. Low confidence frequently goes hand in hand with anxiety or stress, and we can work on these together. Please let me know about any medication or diagnosis before we start, and do not change or stop medication without speaking to your GP. If you are feeling very low, or you are having thoughts of harming yourself, please contact your GP or call NHS 111 for immediate support.
You do not need to feel confident to take the first step. If self-doubt is keeping you from the work, relationships or changes you want, that is reason enough to start.
